SHERMAN OAKS, Calif. -- According to the celebrity news Web site TMZ,Television host and actor Gary Collins was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in Sherman Oaks following a collision that police said was caused by the other motorist, an 89-year-old man.

Collins, 69, was booked for misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs following the crash, which occurred at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kester Avenue and Morrison Street, said Los Angeles police Officer April Harding.
Collins was released late Tuesday night after posting $40,000 bail, according to the sheriff's department.
He was not at fault in the accident," Harding said. "The other motorist failed to yield to oncoming traffic and collided with Collins' vehicle."

The 2004 Ford Explorer that Collins was driving then crashed into two parked cars, Harding said.

"Officers smelled alcohol on his breath and initiated a field sobriety test, which he failed," Harding said.

The other motorist was taken to a hospital for examination of unspecified injuries, and the investigation was continuing, Harding said. Collins was uninjured, Harding said.

Web site TMZ, which first reported the story, witnesses said Collins "said he needed to leave the scene, but he was told by bystanders that he should stay, as someone was seriously injured and he could be charged with hit and run."
